Simply the Best
As is so often the case at Grands Prix, the Lotus F1 Team drivers have been very much in demand at the Italian Grand Prix in Monza.
As well as the expected barrage of questions about where Kimi Räikkönen will drive next year, the strong Tifosi following for Ferrari’s most recent World Champion lent its support to our man. And, as anyone who has experienced the Tifosi first hand, enthusiasm isn’t quite the word.
For his exploits behind the wheel in 2013, the jury of the Confartigianato Motori voted Kimi as the ‘Best Driver of the Season.’ Receiving this prestigious accolade – voted by a panel of international motorsport journalists – Kimi thanked the crowd at the special ceremony on Friday at the track.
“It’s a good award to receive as it is voted for by many people. Unfortunately, it doesn’t come with any points for the World Championship as those would be very useful right now,” he said.
As well as the award, Kimi received a bespoke custom bicycle which he will take back to his home in Switzerland, “I do like to cycle and it looks pretty cool,” said our man.
The evening before Kimi had paid a visit to the Lotus Milan dealership. Located just a few metres outside the Parco di Monza, the dealership provided the perfect setting for an early evening event. It was a balmy evening; there were fantastic looking cars and a World Champion in attendance, what more could we have wished for?
Kimi arrived in style at the wheel of a Lotus Evora S and was greeted by a massive crowd that had come to get a glimpse of the Finn. A press conference with local media was followed by a Q&A with the audience. Kimi was much in demand with hundreds of attending guests who just couldn’t get enough of him.
On Saturday, both Kimi and Romain had the onerous task of having their photos taken with three models from sponsor Clear; a task which both drivers certainly smiled about.
As for our local hero, Davide Valsecchi made some very happy fans on Saturday evening at the F1 Fan Zone. Davide, together with Ferrari driver Marc Gene, took on the F1 Fan Zone simulator finalist for a three lap race of the Circuito di Monza.
Davide beat Marc but none of the drivers managed to beat the young aspiring driver master of the simulator. Davide fought back with a win in the Battak reaction test battle before meeting and greeting fans who were delighted that the Italian star took the time to chat and have his picture taken with them.
Grazie Davide, Romain and Kimi!
